Firefox in action – speeding up to make the Web world a better place

firefox_ie The recent months on online market were dominated by web browsers skirmish. Everything started on 9 March 2011 when the latest version of Google Chrome, marked number 10, was released. It seemed like an invitation to fight. The web browsers battlefield was soon joined by two giants, the online market leaders – Mozilla’s Firefox and Microsoft’s offspring – Internet Explorer. Despite the fact that Internet Explorer (IE8) is still on top among the most popular web browsers in the world (according to StatCounter), Firefox doesn’t give up, doing everything to attract more users to the latest version of its browser “made to make the Web a better place”.

Online video measurement in two shakes of a lamb’s tail

gemius_webflyer_large There is an old English expression “in two shakes of a lamb’s tail”, meaning “in a very short time”. What does a lamb’s tail have in common with measuring online video? Well, with gemiusStream, live and on-demand materials, as well as audio streaming and flash games can be measured within mere minutes and data can be provided for analysis with less than an hour delay. Gemius measured the live broadcast of the company’s recent educational event (gemiusWorkShop) with the usage of multimedia analytics tool, gemiusStream. The results of this research are available in the case study, which we will briefly discuss in this article.

The numbers do not lie. While the population of Belarus is decreasing, the number of Belarusian internet users is growing dynamically. In 2009, the CEE country which experienced the greatest increase in the number of internet users (15%) was Ukraine. In comparison, from January 2010 till January 2011 Belarusian internet population grew by 16%, gaining almost half a million internet users (according to gemiusAudience study). It seems that Belarus is already a flourishing e-society and 2011 will be an important year for the internet industry.
