The realm of internet measurement tenders organized by JICs (Joint Industry Committees) is a small world indeed. There are but a few market leaders. Gemius, as a pioneer of the hybrid methodology, is seen as one of them. International companies such as comScore, Effective Measure, GfK, Nielsen Online, TNS and Gemius compete with each other using different methodological approaches, technological solutions, as well as local connections and references. The struggle is tough, as the stakes are high. No wonder that even when the currencies are already established, those who do not deal the cards still try to stay at the gaming table.

What do you know about the Czech Republic? It’s one of the CEE countries, famous for the Velvet Revolution and the beautiful capital city Prague. But what are the characteristics of the Czech internet reality? According to data from the “Do you CEE?” report, prepared by Gemius in cooperation with IAB Europe, this Central European country, with over 6 million internet users, has the fourth highest internet penetration rate in the CEE region (58% in January 2010). Online audio/video services are still a hot topic among e-marketers and the phenomenon has been attracting more and more users for some time now, not only on Western European markets, but also in CEE region. The popularity of sites offering multimedia content is visible on many Central and Eastern European markets, as one can read in “Do You CEE?” report 2010 edition. Seniors and their lack of web surfing skills or deficiencies in general computer know-how is a common subject for jokes amidst the modern, tech-savvy youngsters. One can imagine two kids talking at school: My grandfather thinks that the faster he clicks on a link or a picture, the faster it will download. On the developing European internet markets, current generation gap has a lot to do with the ‘digital gap’. A grandchild would be surely shocked in a situation when his or her granny explicitly states that what she ‘googled’ recently, she has already downloaded on her PC (not mentioning laptop or tablet!), and that she will share it with him/her via her favourite Instant Messenger in the afternoon. The fact is that, since the World Wide Web is growing older, the same happens with the users.
